Get started with the Cledara API

Reach out to Cledara Support to turn on Cledara API in your workspace.

The Cledara Public API allows you to connect Cledara directly to your internal systems, custom reporting dashboards, or third-party tools. By pulling your live Cledara data directly into your existing workflows, you can automate reporting, monitor software spend in real time, and eliminate manual data exports.

Additionally, our API documentation is optimised for AI assistants (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and MCP tools). This means you or your developers can prompt your preferred AI tools to generate integration code and setup scripts.

Key capabilities

For developers and technical teams setting up the integration, please note the current scope and capabilities of the initial API release:

  • Request method: GET requests only (Read-Only access).
  • Available endpoints:
    • Applications: Query details about your workspace applications and their budget details.
    • Transactions: Fetch transaction data and the accounting details associated with each transaction.
    • Invoices: Retrieve invoices that are uploaded to the platform for each transaction
  • Documentation: You can access the full endpoint specifications, schemas, and AI-optimised documentation at https://api-docs.cledara.com/

Role-based permissions & access

  • Role requirements: Only users with the SaaS Admin/Finance or Spend Admin/Accountant role can generate API keys.
  • Permission inheritance: An API key has the same access level as the person who created it. For example, to fetch Spend transactions using an API key, the key creator must also hold a Spend Admin or Accountant role.
  • Per-Account Isolation: API keys only work for the specific Cledara account where they were created. If you manage multiple accounts, you will need to generate a separate key for each one.

Generate and manage API keys

To generate API keys:

  1. Log into Cledara and navigate to Settings > Profile Details.
  2. Locate the API keys section and click Create API key.
  3. Enter a Name for your key and set the key validity duration.
  4. Copy your secret key and store it securely. For security reasons, this key will only be displayed once and cannot be retrieved later.

To manage API keys:

  • Toggle On/Off: You can temporarily disable and re-enable an active API key at any time.
  • Delete: If a key is compromised or no longer needed, you can permanently delete it.
